Summer Feeding Programs: Jazz up Summer with some fun themes
Looking for ways to spruce up your Summer feeding program? Here are a few fun themes:
Host a Summer Breakfast Program – Coordinate the breakfast meal with a Summer Reading Program. Team up with your school district’s library team, or the local library. Feeding the mind, body and spirit! Win-Win!
Build a garden during your summer lunch program – Team up with your local park department and find a spot of land that you can use as a teaching garden for your lunch kids. Look for volunteers from local organizations to help organize and teach the process of growing food. Lunch and Learn!
Make Lunchtime Fun Time – Check your summer park department for teen volunteers (think Pied Piper!) to help entertain and energize the children at your feeding sites. Hoola Hoops! Sing-A-Longs! A game of jump rope or Simon Says before the meal arrives. Engaging kids in fun physical activities can bring more kids to your feeding sites. Here they can benefit from the food for fueling bodies and the extra fun for lifting spirits!
